Follow the Yellow Brick Road

Filed under: Just for Fun — johnbutchko @ 9:32 am

The Yankees kept with tradition on Monday, forcing the rookie to dress up in bizarre costumes prior to departing for the season’s final roadtrip. This year’s theme was The Wizard of Oz. Ian Kennedy dressed up as Dorothy. Shelley Duncan was the Scarecrow. Ross Ohelndorf and Bronson Sardinha were the Wicked Witch’s guards. Phil Hughes was the Tin Man. Joba Chamberlain was the Cowardly Lion. Tyler Clippard and Kei Igawa were flying monkeys. Alberto Gonzalez was a Munchkin. Matt DeSalvo was a Lollipop Kid. Edwar Ramirez was the Wicked Witch of the West, and Chase Wright was Glinda, the Good Witch of the North.

Quotes:

Joba Chamberlain: “Put ‘em up! Put ‘em up!”

Ian Kennedy: “I’d rather be here dressing up than anywhere else. It makes you feel like one of the guys. I would say it if I didn’t think it was right. I think it’s funny. But it’s kind of hard when you’re Dorothy. I think I got the short end of the stick. Joba, I think he looks like the lion.”

Chase Wright: “I think this is the No. 1 costume, right here.”

Chamberlain to Wright: “Can I get your number?”

Doug Mientkiewicz: “”It couldn’t come at a better time than after today’s game. It will give us something to chuckle at, then get back to playing games tomorrow night.”

Jason Giambi to Kennedy: ” “Man, you look hot.”

Shelley Duncan: “This is a very glorious moment for me. It is what it is. I was meant to be the scarecrow. You go with it, you deal with it, and you don’t think about it because what can I think with? I’m a scarecrow with a mission. We have to find the wonderful, wonderful Wizard.”
