Former New York Mayor and noted Yankees fan Rudy Giuliani is rooting for the Red Sox in the World Series.

“I’m rooting for the Red Sox,” the Republican presidential contender said in response to a question, sparking applause at the Boston restaurant where he was picking up a local endorsement.

“I’m an American League fan, and I go with the American League team, maybe with the exception of the Mets,” he said. “Maybe that would be the one time I wouldn’t because I’m loyal to New York.”

Any Yankees fan pulling for Boston in this series is in no position to talk about loyalty to New York or anywhere at all.

Though I have not spoken to some of you in awhile, I can only imagine that you’re as upset about the way Joe Torre was treated as the rest of us. What’s even more disturbing to me is that this idiot, Randy “The Hair” Levine, is apparently now running the show.

Obviously, there is nothing we as fans can do except let our voices be heard. It’s not going to change anything, but at least we can have our say. Several of us have come up with an idea that we think will get our point across as much as the brain trust is listening, and will allow us to have a little fun while we annoy the crap out of “The Hair.”

Next week, I am going to draft an e-mail to Randy Levine advising him that we would like to be informed when his performance-based model contract with the New York Yankees is taking effect. Anyone who wants to participate will be copied on the mail. Then, each day, someone on the mail thread will hit “Reply To All” and send a follow-up e-mail telling him that we’re still waiting to hear back from him about his performance-based model contract and when it will be going into effect.

As I said, it’s not going to change anything, but at least it’ll give us a chance to let our voices be heard, and to annoy the crap out of “The Hair” at the same time.

The YouTube link I posted prior to Game 3 clearly got the Yankees fired up. It is time for a new one before Game 4. This song might be a cliche at this point for not giving up, but it still applies well to this situation.

The Yankees’ might face long odds, but they can take heart. There are plenty of people who have faced longer odds and overcome them by never quitting.

The Yankees kept with tradition on Monday, forcing the rookie to dress up in bizarre costumes prior to departing for the season’s final roadtrip. This year’s theme was The Wizard of Oz. Ian Kennedy dressed up as Dorothy. Shelley Duncan was the Scarecrow. Ross Ohelndorf and Bronson Sardinha were the Wicked Witch’s guards. Phil Hughes was the Tin Man. Joba Chamberlain was the Cowardly Lion. Tyler Clippard and Kei Igawa were flying monkeys. Alberto Gonzalez was a Munchkin. Matt DeSalvo was a Lollipop Kid. Edwar Ramirez was the Wicked Witch of the West, and Chase Wright was Glinda, the Good Witch of the North.

Derek Jeter has had one of the greatest careers in New York Yankees history. Time and again he has wowed fans with amazing feats in the most important of spots. In many ways, his career and persona match that of Joe DiMaggio. Both are known as great righty hitters. Both have played glamor positions for the sport’s greatest franchise. Both are known as proud, lifelong Yankees. Both are known as the face of a Yankee dynasty. Both gained great admiration among fans, peers, and the media yet have been able to maintain an air dignity through the private nature of their lives off the field. Ernest Hemingway immortalized DiMaggio in The Old Man and the Sea as his protagonist often spoke of his admiration for “The Great DiMaggio.” After Jeter’s heroics last night, it is only fitting to do the same. From this point forward, Derek Jeter will be known on this blog as The Great Jeter.

For those of you who do not know, one of the traditions at Fenway Park is for Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond to play over the stadium loudspeaker during the middle of the 8th inning. A few Yankees fans sung their own version during last season’s epic five game sweep.
