I think the Yankees read your post and issued the following statement. It makes the Yankees look a little better:

“We want to congratulate Mr. Wang and his representatives on their efforts. They did a credible job. It should be noted that the $4 million figure which we submitted is the highest arbitration award ever for a first-time arbitration-eligible starting pitcher. Therefore, this should not be viewed as ‘a loss’ for Chien-Ming Wang. He is a valuable member of our team and we felt that we had reflected this in our filing number.”

From what I understand, the Steinbrenners didn’t have anything to do with the naming. It was an homage brought about by the town council to honor George, who has brought a lot of business and tourist dollars into Tampa…

Since Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, Berra and Ford didn’t really have much to do with Tampla, FL, they picked The Boss instead….I like the move!

AMEN John – Dave, my friend who came to the playoff game with us is a DIE HARD Giants fan, and I was very happy to see my friend revel in the joy of destroying the so-caled “perfect season”. We will also enjoy, for months to come, the unraveling of “spygate”…. Now lets hope that 2008 is TRULY a NEW YORK YEAR! (and I don’t mean Santana’s new team!!!)

I don’t care if he hit a million home runs in the regular season. That dosen’t define a “clutch” player. Hitting the ball when it really matters does. You can point out a dozen or more players that hit as many game winners as A Rod. You can’t deny that he failed to perform when we needed him most(postseason). “Clutch”, not even in the slightest. He certainly was not deserving.
